A major step toward producing good aluminum
welds is the use of high quality filler metal. It
should be free of gas or nonmetallic impurities,
with a clean, smooth surface free of moisture,
lubricant or other contaminants. Base metals that
can be welded are 1060, 1070, 1080, and 3003. In
general purpose welding the two most widely used
processes for groove welding are gas metal arc and
gas tungsten arc welding processes.
